Claiming that the People's Democratic Party has no links with extremist elements, its chairman Abdul Nasser Madani on Saturday charged the Muslim League (ML) and BJP with carrying out a 'misinformation campaign' against his party to gain political mileage.

"The PDP has no connections with any fundamentalist forces and the ongoing campaign by the League and BJP is done only with an eye on the vote bank," he told reporters here.

Accusing the League of 'betraying' the interests of the minority community, Madani said the ML leadership should clarify why it alone opposed a CBI probe into the May 2003 Marad killings, when all other political parties agreed to such an investigation.

Noting that Muslims in the state lived in total peace and amity, he said it had to be ascertained why certain youths had chosen the path of extremism.

Refuting charges that he and some PDP activists had nexus with fundamentalists, Madani said it is improper to target a particular outfit and community without finding the facts.
