The Communist Party of India has called upon all democratic progressive forces to launch a united struggle against the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and other parochial forces to defend national unity and constitutional rights of the people.
In a resolution adopted at the ongoing 20th Congress of the party in Hyderabad on Tuesday, the CPI strongly condemned 'the divisive anti-national agitation started by MNS and other forces' in Mumbai and other places in Maharashtra.
Briefing media persons, CPI spokesmen Shameem Faizee and Dr K Narayana said the party demanded that immediate action should be taken against those inciting violence and against all those who have participated in hooliganism. The party also demanded that just compensation should be given to those affected by the MNS agitation.
"Our country recently witnessed some violent agitation in the name of 'sons of soil' issue. Migrant workers from Bihar were killed in Assam, Manipur and at Nasik in Maharashtra. Hundreds of workers were compelled to leave their place of work.
"Urban Metros like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chandigarh have seen anti- migrant agitations under the pretext of protecting jobs and threat to local culture. Massive increase in contractual nature of work and growth of private professional institutions has encouraged migration on huge scale," the resolution pointed out.
Blaming capitalist unplanned development pursued by successive governments at the Centre and in the states for creating 'pockets of development', the CPI said migration of people in search of jobs and opportunities for upwardly mobility is taking place from all over the country to these urban areas.
