Indian Ambassador to the United States Ronen Sen has cancelled some of his prior appointments outside Washington DC to meet the Indian workers, who are marching to Washington in protest of alleged slave-like treatment with them in a Mississippi shipyard.

"On March 17, Ambassador Sen had conveyed to the Indian workers his willingness to meet with them at a mutually convenient date and time to see how their legitimate grievances and concerns could be addressed. He said that his  doors were always open to any of his fellow citizens of India," Indian Embassy said in a statement.

Thereafter, a group of workers have unilaterally decided to march to Washington DC to meet with Ambassador Sen on March 26, without specifying the time, it said.

"The Ambassador has decided to cancel some prior engagements outside Washington DC and return to the capital by mid-day on March 26 to be able to receive the Indian workers at his office," the statement added.

More than 100 Indian workers, who alleged that they faced "slave-like treatment" in a Mississippi shipyard after being "tricked" into coming to the US, have began a march from New Orleans to Washington on March 17 to meet Indian Ambassador Ronen Sen in their search for justice.

The protestors, who alleged that the Indian government failed to protect them, are expected to reach Washington DC on March 26.
