Bush, the final flight

June 17, 2008
George W Bush's term as the world's most powerful man is coming to an end. In what could be one of his last overseas visits, the US President flew to Europe -- apparently to strengthen trans-Atlantic partnership.

His first stop was Slovenia where he attended his last European Union summit. The leaders tried to work up consensus on a statement imposing tougher sanctions to pressurise Iran on its nuclear ambitions.

From the scenic Slovenian countryside, Bush headed for Germany. His talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel were dominated by the Iranian nuclear programme, climate protection and transatlantic trade.
