Despite Gandhinagar being his pocketborough, senior BJP leader L K Advani is leaving nothing to chance for the forthcoming parliamentary elections.

The BJP's prime ministerial candidate is launching the election campaign in his constituency in Gujarat on Sunday though there has been no announcement about the Lok Sabha elections which are likely to be held early next year.

Advani, a five-term Lok Sabha member has been associated with Gandhinagar way back from 1989 except in 1996 when he chose not to contest elections against the backdrop of the Hawala scam.

The candidature of the Leader Of the Opposition was announced in the first list of six candidates released by the party last week. According to sources, a meeting planned for Sunday evening is slated to be attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi [Images] and other top leaders in the party.
