Nine militants were shot dead in separate incidents during the past 48 hours after troops and police intensified operations against the proscribed outfits.

Police said in Imphal on Wednesday that three militants were shot dead on Monday and another six militants were gunned down Tuesday.

Three suspected militants were shot dead at Langol, Imphal, on Tuesday by a team of Manipur police commandos and 32 Assam Rifles.

A combined team of Imphal East district police commandos and 32 AR gunned down three suspected militants in another encounter at Laphupokpi, Imphal East district on Tuesday evening.

Two 9 mm pistols, one AK-47 rifle along with 56 live rounds, three bombs and other ammunition were also recovered, police said.

Security has also been beefed up in most parts of Imphal by permanently posting security personnel.

Police said IRB personnel were positioned at various places of Imphal to check passers-by and nab militants.

Meanwhile, N Wangba, chief department of communication and publicity, Revolutionary People's Front, gave "revolutionary salute" to three of its cadres who died earlier.
