Three-time former chief minister and state Congress committee chief Lal Thanhawla headed the list of winners in Mizoram with wins from South Tuipui and Serchhip seats in the 40-member assembly.

Thanhawla beat his nearest rival, United Democratic Alliance nominee J Lalchhuana by a margin of 96 votes in South Tuipui and UDA candidate C Lalramzauva, an advocate, by 736 votes in Serchhip.

Assembly Speaker Lalchamliana of the Mizo National Front was beaten by the sitting Congress legislator H Liansailova in Aizawl North-II.

Deputy Speaker C Lalrinsanga of the MNF also lost to P C Lalthanliana of the Congress in Lunglei North.

The deputy chief ministerial candidate of the UDA Lalduhoma lost Tuivawl to first timer R L Pianmawia of the Congress.
