The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre may beef up the security to its  employees and buses carrying them, if the central security agencies issue an alert.

"BARC has a good security system in place for its employees and the BARC buses they travel and we may intensify the security if required by the central agencies," head personnel, Narayan Nair said.

Nair said this reacting to reports that BARC buses could be soft targets for terrorists in wake of two suicide bombings that had ripped through an Army bus carrying Atomic Energy Commission employees on September 4 in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, killing at least 25 people and injuring 60 others.

Usually BARC buses bring the employees to the main gate and all the employees get down and walk through metal detector in addition to getting verified electronically their I-cards by the BARC securities, Nair said.

The Central Industrial Security Force personnel would then check the bus thoroughly and then all the employees once again board the bus and are taken to their respective work place in the campus, he said. The bus driver and a supervisor would also be thoroughly checked, he said.

"So far, we have not received any threats from the Centre and if we get, security measures will be intensified," Nair added.
