Jindal, who beat out a field of 12 candidates, is the first candidate to win an open gubernatorial seat since Louisiana adopted the non-partisan primary system in 1975 where the candidate who receives over 50 per cent of the vote is elected the state’s chief executive.
In a report titled 'Jindal all the way,' The Times noted how the Indian American Congressman had bounced back from a loss in the gubernatorial seat four years back. It also carried a photograph of Jindal with his wife, Supriya, and son, Shaan, greeting the media at their hotel suite.
'My mom and dad came to this country in pursuit of the American dream. And guess what happened. They found the American Dream to be alive and well right here in Louisiana,' Jindal was quoted as saying.
