The Bihar government has decided to conduct speedy trials against government officials arrested on charge of bribery.
The government has already set up a special court for speedy trials of all government officials arrested for accepting bribe.

"The special court will hold speedy trials of cases against officials soon," sources in the chief minister's office said on Thursday. The Bihar vigilance department arrested 109 government officials on charges of bribery till September 2007 and 68 in 2006.

"In the last 18 months, the vigilance department arrested more government officials for taking bribe than they did in the last decade," ADG (vigilance) Neelmani said.

The vigilance department filed chargesheet in 60 of 68 and 76 of 109 arrested government officials in 2006 and 2007.

"The special court will start speedy trials of all the charge-sheeted cases to punish the accused of taking bribe," Neelmani said.

He said speedy trails of government officials arrested on charge of bribery would send strong message. Last year, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ordered a special drive against corruption.
