The Congress has alleged that there is a conspiracy to murder tainted Gujarat police official Vanzara and lay the blame on Muslims just before the Gujarat elections for political gains.

"I am making this statement with a full sense of responsibility," he said.

"Prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Home Minister Shivraj Patil will be informed about the information that we have got from our sources," he said.

He also said a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party is involved in the murder of Sohrabuddin Sheikh. He refused to name the leader in question and said this name would figure in the investigations into the fake killings of Sohrabuddin, his wife and the only eye witness.

The two were killed by the Gujarat police as per the affidavit filed on behalf of the state police before the Supreme Court.

BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra, who addressed the media persons earlier, alleged that there were 21 fake encounters in Delhi alone and nobody has chosen to speak about them.

He accused the Union government and its allies of following an agenda to oust Modi because his state was the leading state in all-round development. "Likewise, if it is proved that there were fake killings in Jammu and Kashmir, the defence minister should resign," he argued.
