The vacation bench of the Supreme Court on Monday refused to interfere in the Dera Sacha Sauda case.

A bench comprising Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice D K Jain told the petitioner, Dera Sacha Sauda, that since the case was being monitored by the Punjab and Haryana high courts, it would not be proper for the apex court to hear the plea.

The court also rejected Akali Dal advocate's plea that the court should specify that Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh should not wear the attire resembling Sikh Guru Gobind Singh.

The Dera had approached the apex court last Friday after the Akal Takht, the highest religious body of Sikhs, served an ultimatum to the Punjab government to close down all Deras in the state by May 27.

In their petition, the Dera had sought protection of their properties against the ultimatum.

Following the Supreme Court observation on Monday, the Dera has withdrawn its petition. However, it has kept the option open for approaching the National Human Rights Commission in case there is any threat to the Deras across the country.
