Landslides claimed two lives in north Kerala [Images] while one person was reported missing since Monday night as incessant rains battered several parts causing extensive damage to crops besides inundating low-lying areas.
A woman was killed in landslip at Koodaranchu Anayodu in the district, while another person died at Vettilapara in Malappuram district, police said.
A child trapped under the debris triggered by landslide at Thottumukkam in the district was rescued by locals, while search was on to trace a person who was reportedly washed away in the heavy rains, the sources said.
A house was destroyed in the torrential rains in Arikode in Malappuram district and another damaged at Edavanna, they said.
Meanwhile, the district administration in Kozhikode, Malappuram and Wayanad has declared a holiday for educational institutions on Tuesday to cope up with the situation.
Families living in the hilly areas were being shifted to safer places on account of the landslides that had also resulted in destruction of crops spread over several acres of land besides throwing traffic out of gear at many places with roads flooded with rain waters.
