The Election Commission on Thursday deferred polling in Beas Assembly seat in Punjab following some violent incidents in the constituency.

The polling in the constituency, scheduled earlier on February 13, would now be held on March 11, EC sources said.

With over a week left for polling, the run up has already seen violence with the killing of an Akali Dal worker allegedly by Congress activists in Beas town near Amritsar.

Three security guards of sitting Congress legislator Jasbir Singh Dimpa were arrested earlier for allegedly opening fire from their AK 47 rifle on January 29 leading to the death of an Akali activist.
