United States Ambassador David C Mulford has said that the US is watching External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee visit to Iran on February 6, and that he has already conveyed his concerns on the Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline "to the concerned ministries."

"A few months ago, I had met the ministries concerned and brought to their notice the Libya-Iran sanctions legislation on trade with these countries. I explained that this legislation had never been invoked and that it applied to corporate investment," said Mulford on Thursday.

"Beyond that, we are watching the visit, but not more than a visit to any other country," he said, adding, "We know that India has been supportive of the efforts to get Iran to comply with international safeguards, but we are also aware of its own relationship with Iran."

On the Indo-US nuclear deal, he said that US Under Secretary of State Nicholas Burns will be meeting India's special envoy on the deal, Shyam Saran, to chart out a time table for the 123 Agreement to be finalised and brought before the Congress.

On Russia's nuclear plans for India, Mulford said, "We will play by the rules, as will the Russians. And we hope to offer competitive technology and get business."
