Prime MinisterManmohan Singh presented the first copy of the commemorative volume of Gandhian Way - Peace, Non-violence and Empowerment to Sonia Gandhi [Images], chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance at a function in New Delhi on Thursday.
The book was released as part of a series of functions to be held in the 60th year of Independence.
Dr Singh "hoped that the book would become a reference" on the ideals we associate with the name of Mahatma Gandhi [Images]." While launching the book, Dr Singh thanked members of the Satyagraha Centenary Committee and all those associated with the New Delhi conference and the publication of the volume.
Dr Singh said that the teachings of Gandhi were not just limited to a particular region nor was it relevant to Indians only.
"He belongs to all humankind and the ideals and values espoused by him will continue to inspire generations to come for a long time," the prime minister said.
Dr Singh hoped that the international diginatries who took part in the book release function would derive inspiration from the life and work of Mahatma Gandhi.
"I take this opportunity to convey my very sincere appreciation of the leadership role played by the Congress president Sonia Gandhi in organising this magnificent conference and in taking several initiatives to perpetuate the memory of Mahatma Gandhi for future generations," Dr Singh said.
