The Supreme Court today allowed controversial Rashtriya Janata Dal MP Mohammad Shahabuddin, lodged in Siwan Jail in Bihar, to cast his vote in the vice-presidential election scheduled for August 10.

A Supreme Court Bench headed by Justice B N Aggarwal directed the Director General of Police of Bihar and jail superintendent, Siwan to bring Shahabuddin with sufficient police escort to the Parliament House to cast his vote. The bench also asked the Election Commission to allow him to cast his vote.

The court said that after casting his vote, he would be immediately taken back to Siwan jail. The Bench also made it clear that the MP from Siwan would bear all the travelling cost for coming to Delhi. Senior Advocate Ranjeet Kumar appearing for the MP said he would be coming to Delhi by air. The court also said that the Delhi Police Commissioner would cooperate in making arrangements for the purpose.
