Internal security in jeopardy: Advani

Onkar Singh in Dehradun | September 08, 2006 19:53 IST

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha L K Advani on Friday said that the internal situation in the country had become more serious than before.

Addressed a gathering at the party's national executive meet in Dehradun, Advani said: "After Mumbai train blasts, now it is Malegaon. Internal security has become all the more important than any other point."

Hitting out at Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil for terming the Naxal problem as the state subject while it was clearly a national issue, the former BJP president listed dynastic rule as the biggest challenge before the Indian democracy.

He wondered how the Congress party could bail itself out from bribery charges when former external affairs minister Natwar Singh had been held guilty.

Advani said public anger should not be directed against a particular community for not singing Vande Mataram but against the pesudo secularists.

'The nation also noted the conspicuous absence of the Congress president and the prime minister from the Vande Mataram programmes. It just shows how the Congress party and its government simply wilted under a completely baseless and dangerous assault on the national song. Those who, cannot with conviction, defend the sacred legacy of our national movement are unfit to be India's rulers,' he said in a written statement issued by the party on his behalf.
