The Election Commission has fixed October 30 for holding bye-elections to Chawngte and Tlungvel seats in Mizoram.

Besides Mizoram, bypolls will also be held in few other states on the same day.

The election notification will be issued on October 6 and thereafter the election model Code of Conduct will come into effect, EC officials said in Aizawl, adding that the last date for filing nominations is October 13 while the scrutiny of nominations will be held the following day.

With only a few days left for filing nominations, no political party in Mizoram has announced its bypoll candidates yet except for the Zoram Nationalist Party, which had fielded Lalngova for the Chawngte seat.

Meanwhile, the Mizoram People's Conference is likely to announce their candidates on Monday, according to party vice-president Col Lalchungnunga. The ruling Mizo National Front and its ally Mizoram Congress Party have made it clear that the alliance will remain intact in the coming bye-elections.
