A group of Tibetan students under the banner of 'Friends of Tibet' [Images] on Wednesday presented a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] asking him to seek an investigation on alleged human rights violation in the Himalayan region.
"We ask that you urge Chinese President Hu Jintao to permit an independent investigation into the Nangpa La pass killings and allow an international agency with expertise in the rights and well being of children to determine whether any of the 10 kids apprehended by the guards at the border were separated from their parents willingly," the letter said.
"You have recently entered into a partnership with US to promote democracy and human rights, so in accordance with
those commitments and India's long association we Tibet, we request you to defend Tibetan's rights," the letter said.
They acknowledged India's support to Tibetans in exile, and sought its participation in restoring social, political and cultural freedom in their homeland.
