The wife of an Indian-origin doctor in the United States has surrendered before authorities and will face charges of shooting to death her millionaire husband.

Donna Moonda, 47, surrendered on Monday, hours after a man romantically linked to her pleaded guilty to the killing of Dr Gulam Moonda, 69, near Cleveland last year. Donna has been charged in a federal warrant with interstate stalking that resulted in her husband's death. She has also been charged with aiding and abetting.

On Thursday, Damian Bradford, 25, admitted in an Akron (Ohio) court to the same stalking charge as Donna and agreed to cooperate with authorities in the case. He was to be sentenced to 17 years in prison. Prosecutors say Donna and Bradford had a romantic relationship.

Gulam Moonda, a highly successful urologist, was shot on May 13, 2005, when he pulled off the Ohio Turnpike south of Cleveland to allow his wife to drive, authorities said. According to Donna, a gunman emerged from another vehicle, shot and robbed her husband and fled. Donna and her mother, who was also present in the car, told authorities that they could not see the gunman.

Bradford is suspected to have followed the Moondas as they drove out of Pennsylvania and headed to Toledo.

According to authorities, Donna and Bradford were having an affair and had met at a drug rehabilitation centre. Donna was planning to divorce her husband in the hope of getting up to $4 million by way of settlement.
