BJP council ratifies Rajnath Singh's election as party president

The National Council of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday ratified Rajnath Singh's election as president of the party for a three-year term with former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Leader of Opposition in Parliament Lal Kishenchand Advani [Images] and senior party leader Jaswant Singh joining party workers in congratulating him on the occassion.

BJP's chief returning officer O P Kohli who conducted the organisational elections in the country said there were 15 sets of nomination papers all in support of Rajnath Singh's candidature. Hence, he had declared Rajnath Singh as the party's president for a full term.

The ratification of a newly elected president by the national council, comprising of elected representatives and office bearers of the party in states and districts all over the country, is mandatory and is provided in the party's constitution.

Shooting star Jaspal Rana who won three golds and a silver in the recently concluded Asian Games at Doha was honoured by Vajpayee and Advani for his feat.
