Ultras blow up railway track in Assam

Suspected extremists triggered a powerful explosion on the broad gauge railway track between Daldali and Diphu railway stations in Karbi Anglong hill district of Assam at 9-12 pm on Tuesday night throwing rail communication out of gear in Guwahati-Tinsukia section of Northeast Frontier Railway.

An N F Railway spokesman in Guwahati informed that the blast caused extensive damage to the track and senior officials and emergency damage control teams rushed to the blast site from the divisional headquarter at Lumding in the adjacent Nagaon district.

The spokesman said that all the trains scheduled to run on that section were regulated at different stations immediately after the blast. The blast blew about a three-meter portion of the track.

The last missed the Howrah-Tinsukia Up Kamrup Express by a few minutes. The train was halted at Diphu railway station immediate after the explosion. The Dn BG Express was regulated at Dhansiri railway station after the blast while all the good trains slated to run on the section on Tuesday night were cancelled till restoration of the damaged track.
