Alert sounded in Gujarat before water release

An alert was sounded on Wednesday in low lying areas of central and south Gujarat following the release of water from the dams on Sabarmati and Mahi rivers.

About 100 persons have been evacuated from Ahmedabad city and people have been asked by district authorities to move to safer places, officials said.

The District Collector's office alerted residents through text messages about water being released into Sabarmati river following heavy rains in Vadnagar and Disa on Tuesday night.

Residents of some districts of central and south Gujarat have also been warned following the release of water from the Narmada and Kadana dams since Monday night, officials in Ahmedabad said.

The Gujarat flood control authority issued a warning to people living in low lying areas of Mahi river on Tuesday night after 4 lakh cusecs of water was released from Kadana.
