Like many of Pune's festivals, this Ganeshotsav too has a personal history behind it.

Shree Nathuram Dongre Kanchi wanted a son. He went to the Tulsja Bhavani Mandir and there he saw a small statue of Ganapati sitting with his wife. Nathruram vowed that if he got a son he would make the replica of the statue. And he did.

The idol is made of paper pulp and mud and is 111 years old!

Once, the people thought the idol had become and they installed a new idol. That year there was a fire in the pandal. Next year onwards, the old idol was back.
