S K Goswami, who resides in Faridabad on the outskirts of Delhi, has left no stone unturned seeking the release of his brother, Flight Lieutenant Sudhir Kumar Goswami.

On December 12, 1971, four days before the war ended, his brother, who was based in Agra, received orders to go on a bombing mission at Sargodha airport.

His plane was shot down. His arrest, along with that of his navigator Lieutenant Mahajan, was repeatedly announced by Radio Pakistan.

"I have met virtually every prime minister from Indira Gandhi to H D Deve Gowda," says S K Goswami. "I have submitted representations. I work in a private organisation and draw a comfortable salary. Wherever I go, my eyes look for my brother despite the fact that I know he is in some jail in Pakistan. He was married but, after a long wait, his wife remarried. I have not given up though."

Then, his voice begins to break.
