PM chairs high level security meeting

November 04, 2005 00:56 IST

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday held a high-level meeting to review the security arrangements in Delhi on the eve of Eid festival.

The meeting was also attended by Home Minister Shivraj Patil and senior officials of the Ministry and Delhi Police, official sources said.

The meeting also discussed the progress made so far in the investigation into last Saturday's serial bomb blasts in the national capital, they said.

Security has been stepped up across the capital to ward off a terror strike, particularly in view of the serial blasts on the eve of Diwali that killed 59 people and injured 210.

Around 3,000 additional personnel of Delhi Police and central para-military forces have been deployed across the capital, especially at market places and sensitive installations.

Strict vigil is being maintained at markets and other crowded places and public has been cautioned to be alert to suspicious persons and objects.

Searches have been carried out at suspicious places to detect any subversive elements that may be hiding to strike, police sources said.

Pickets have been erected at various places across the capital and vehicles are being checked randomly.
