Punjab police may turn blue or gray next year

September 30, 2004 21:51 IST

The Punjab police personnel may don a different look next year.

A proposal to change the colour of the uniform worn by cops in the state is being finalised. There are two colours options under consideration -- gray and blue.

"The proposal to change the uniform of the Punjab police is under consideration and by next month we will send the
final proposal to the state government," Director General of Police A A Siddiqui said on Thursday.

When asked to explain why the change was being considered, Siddiqui said 'khaki' has lost its sheen.

Asked if he was convinced that a sartorial change will help in an image makeover of the force, the DGP said: "Although change of uniform may not affect the character of any person, but at least there will be some difference about the appearance of the cops."

It remains to be seen if that will be enough to restore the public faith in police machinery.
