Bilkis case: U D Salvi to hold trial

September 01, 2004 16:16 IST

The Bombay high court has appointed Additional Sessions Judge U D Salvi to conduct the trial in the Bilkis Yakub Rasool Bano gangrape-cum massacre case, which was transferred to Maharashtra from Gujarat following the Supreme Court order.

Registrar General R C Chavan on Wednesday told PTI that Salvi was nominated by Chief Justice D S Bhandari to conduct the trial.

He said the trial is expected to begin tomorrow at the newly-made court room at Mazagaon where the Best Bakery case would also be heard.

"The accused have been brought to Arthur road jail and lodged here. In all likelihood, the first hearing should take place tomorrow itself," Chavan said.
