THE Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh held its all-important Vijayadashmi rally at its headquarters in Nagpur on Friday. RSS volunteers in their traditional khaki uniform gathered in impressive numbers at the public function addressed by RSS chief K S Sudarshan and other leaders.

What created a flutter was the unscheduled presence of Bharatiya Janata Party's new president, L K Advani.

Another surprise BJP guest at the rally was Varun Gandhi.

The presence of these two BJP leaders at the annual RSS show of power at Nagpur was seen in political circles as an attempt to improve the strained relationship between the two saffron bodies.
