The Bharatiya Janata Party's Delhi unit on Tuesday assessed the election result amid abstention by senior leaders Sahib Singh Verma and Jagmohan.

Overconfidence and inadequate mobilisation of workers emerged as the key factors behind the BJP's drubbing in Delhi.

At a working committee meeting attended by BJP general secretary in-charge of Delhi, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, state party chief Harshvardhan had to face a tough time.

In a resolution that was adopted, members forced him to drop mention of "collective responsibility" for the poor performance.

Four of the seven candidates who attended the meeting gave their reasons for the party's debacle in Delhi, where it bagged only one seat.

Among the candidates V K Malhotra, only one of the seven nominees to get elected, Vijay Goel, Lal Bihari Tiwari, Vijay Goel and Anita Arya attended the meeting and gave their assessment.

Verma, Jagmohan and Smriti 'Tulsi' Irani did not attend the meeting, party sources said.

Verma abstained as he was apparently peeved at the functioning on the party unit, the sources said.
