A woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances even as her husband and minor daughter were asleep right next to her, police said.

Sonal Patel (25) was found by her husband 'sleeping beside him in a pool of blood' with her throat slit open.

Husband Bharat Patel, a trustee of a Swaminarayan temple in Valsad district, told police he was asleep beside the victim along with his minor daughter on the terrace of their relative's house in Gota area, on the outskirts of Ahmedabad.

The family had come to attend a function and was living at his in-law's house for the past few days.

Ahmedabad District (rural) Superintendent of Police Manoj Agarwal told PTI the complainant (husband) did not know how and when the incident occurred but 'remembers seeing somebody dressed in black fleeing in the darkness'.

"There has been no theft of valuables from the house so police are investigating other angles," he said adding that a case of murder has been registered.
