War is no solution: Priyanka

March 13, 2004 14:45 IST

Priyanka Gandhi's presence made waves at the National Stadium in Karachi on Saturday, where the first one-day cricket international between India and Pakistan was played.

Accompanied by husband Robert Vadra and brother Rahul, Priyanka, the daughter of the former Indian prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, seemed to enjoy every moment of India's batting.

The three have been accorded the status of state guests during their three-day visit to the country. They visited Edhi Foundation, Pakistan's biggest charity organization on Friday evening.

Priyanka's visit is mainly to restore peace between the two countries, by developing people-to-people contact.

'War is not a solution to our problems. We have to create love and affection. We hope people-to-people contact will lead to that,' she told the media.

Priyanka added that she hoped to witness good and exciting cricket between the two teams.
