76 delinquents escape from Bihar remand home

March 13, 2004 11:07 IST

Seventy-six juvenile delinquents escaped from a remand home in Patna on Friday night.

Seven police personnel have been placed under suspension in connection with the incident, a senior police official said.

The boys reportedly snatched the keys from the caretaker of the remand home and escaped around 2330 IST, Senior Superintendent of Police Nayar Hasnain Khan said.

While 11 of them were nabbed soon after they escaped, the police is searching for the others, he said.

Khan said four constables, two havildars and a beat officer have been placed under suspension.

He said the connivance of remand home authorities cannot be ruled out at this stage.

Senior officials, including District Magistrate Deepak Prasad, have reached the spot.
