Ten prisoners escape from Gujarat jail

Ten prisoners have fled from a sub-jail in Anand district of Gujarat, a police official said in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

The prisoners, all convicted of theft and robbery, approached a security guard and told him that one of them was ill, Anand district Superintendent of Police B S Jebalia said.

When the guard opened the door, the prisoners snatched his rifle and hit him on the head with it before escaping, Jebalia said.

An alert had been sounded to nab the accused, he added.
