HC allows Kanshi Ram's kin to meet him

July 14, 2004 14:53 IST

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday allowed the kin of Kanshi Ram to meet the ailing Bahujan Samaj Party founder at the official residence of BSP chief Mayawati in Delhi later in the day.

Acting on a habeas corpus petition filed by Kanshi Ram's mother Bishan Kaur and his two brothers, a division bench of Justice B A Khan and Justice Jaspal Singh allowed them to meet him on Wednesday at 1530 IST.

Kanshi Ram is recuperating in Mayawati's Humayun Road residence after being discharged from Batra Hospital on July 1.

The court directed the Station House Officer, Tughlak Road, to accompany the kin to Mayawati's residence to avoid any untoward incident.

It also asked the Registrar of the Court to meet Kanshi Ram before his kin did and record his statement, which will be taken into account on Thursday to dispose off the habeas corpus petition.

Bishan Kaur and her two sons have been complaining for quite some time that Mayawati is not allowing them to meet Kanshi Ram.
