As the Congress maintained Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi are its 'primary members', Andhra Pradesh Congress Legislature Party leader Y S Rajasekhar Reddy on Friday said they should contest from his home district Cuddapah.

"My offer is that either Priyanka or Rahul can contest from Cuddapah Lok Sabha constituency as people in the state are eager to have a Gandhi family member as their representative," Reddy, who had represented the constituency for four terms, told PTI.

At present Cuddapah -- a Congress bastion -- is represented by his brother Y S Vivekananda Reddy.

Recalling his long-standing association with the Nehru-Gandhi family, Reddy said, "I owe my political career to late Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. It is a matter of immense pride for me to offer the seat to the siblings of this great family."

Lashing out at the NDA for making Congress chief Sonia Gandhi's foreign origin a poll issue, the CLP leader said, "What do they know about the supreme sacrifices made by the Gandhi family for the country? Sonia Gandhi is an undisputed leader of our party and is wedded to Indian values."

Reddy represents Pulivendula assembly constituency in Cuddapah district.
