BJP books private aircraft for Advani

February 20, 2004 20:29 IST

With the Election Commission yet to take a decision on allowing Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani to use Indian Air Force aircraft for electioneering, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday said it has decided to book a private aircraft for him.

"BJP has booked an aircraft with a capacity to seat six to eight persons for use by the deputy prime minister in the
coming Lok Sabha elections," party general secretary Pramod Mahajan told reporters.

The government had cited security reasons in a letter to the commission seeking permission for the deputy prime minister to have the facility of using Indian Air Force aircraft.

Election Commission spokesman A N Jha refused to comment on the matter. "We will get back to you when the decision is taken," he told reporters.
