Maneka Gandhi, Varun meet PM

Former Union minister Maneka Gandhi's son, Varun Gandhi, on Monday said his aunt and Congress president Sonia Gandhi will not be acceptable to the country as prime minister.

He, however, said he would not campaign against her or Rahul and Priyanka in the coming Lok Sabha polls.
 
Varun was speaking to reporters after meeting Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the latter's 7 Race Course Road residence. He was accompanied by his mother.

The mother-son duo is likely enter the Bharatiya Janata Party later on Monday.

"I respect my aunt and my cousins and there is no question of criticising them. I will not speak against them," he said.

Asked why he and his mother chose BJP, Varun said the country needs experienced leaders like Vajpayee and Lal Kishenchand Advani.
