Mumbai twin blasts: Charge sheet filed

The police on Thursday filed a charge sheet in a POTA court charging six persons with conspiring with the Lashkar-e-Tayiba to strike terror in the country by triggering a series of blasts in Mumbai killing more than 55 people.
The charge sheet, filed by special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, pertained to the Ghatkopar blast of July 28 and twin blasts of August 25 at the Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar in 2003.

It also included the seizure of explosives on December 6, 2002, from the Santa Cruz Electronics Export Processing Zone in suburban Andheri.
The accused are charged with various offences under sections 3, 5 and 20 of POTA. Besides, they have been booked under sections 120-b (conspiracy), 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
Two persons were killed and 31 injured when a powerful bomb exploded in a bus in suburban Ghatkopar while 53 people died and over 150 were injured in twin blasts in the Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar areas of south Mumbai.
The charge sheet revealed that the conspiracy to trigger a chain of explosions was hatched by the Lashkar-e-Tayiba in Dubai at a meeting attended by at least seven Pakistani nationals all of who are absconding.
The charge sheet revealed that co-accused Nasir was hired by the Lashkar-e-Tayiba to recruit others. He, along with Sayed Hanif, assembled the bombs at the latter's residence. Nasir died in an encounter a few days after the twin blasts.
