All shops, business establishments, schools and colleges remained closed. Attendance in government offices and banks was thin.

All private buses and autorickshaws remained off the roads.

Railway and air services were not affected by the bandh.

The bandh began at 0500 IST to protest the killing of 17 people in a blast at an Independence Day function in Dhemaji district.

AASU advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya said the bandh was "total, spontaneous and peaceful."
