Amma's charitable activities include projects related to community welfare, health care, education and spirituality. Some of these include:
- 25,000 free houses for the poor; 100,000 more houses to be constructed in the next 10 years.
- Pension to 50,000 destitute women. Charitable medical camps. The Amrita Niketan Orphanage. Free food through the Mata Amritanandamayi Math and Mother's Kitchen in the US. An AIDS care centre. A home for the aged. A hospice for terminally ill cancer patients.
- Medical institutions including the Amrita Institute of Medical Science, the Amrita Kripa Hospital and an Ayurvedic clinic.
- Over 60 educational institutions including the AIMS Medical College, the Amrita Institute of Technology and Science, the Amrita Institute of Technology and the Amrita Vidyalam schools.
Amma says: We cannot change all the situations in life, but we can change our attitude towards them.
