SC notice to Gujarat govt on rape victim's plea

September 08, 2003

The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to the Gujarat government, its home department and the Dahod district superintendent of police on a petition filed by a woman who was allegedly raped during the post-Godhra riots in the state.

The woman has charged that the police abruptly shut the case.

A bench comprising Justice S Rajendra Babu and Justice G P Mathur issued the notices.

The victim alleged that the police filed a closure report before the Limkheda magistrate on technical ground of her
statements being contradictory.
