Mohammad Ansari was unconscious when he arrived at the J J Hospital. He had suffered a head injury and was one of the critically wounded patients that day. There was bleeding inside his brain, between the skull resulting in a clot formation.

The surgery was difficult, and many such cases do not have a successful outcome. Sometimes it can lead to permanent brain damage. But Ansari pulled it through.

"He is recovering and only has some limb injuries," says Chief Resident Dr Mohit Jain, 27 [in blue shirt, right], "He is eating, talking, recognising people and should be discharged within a week."

Of the 57 patients admitted on the day of the blasts, 23 remain in Ward 18.
