SC ticks off 3 chief secretaries

October 28, 2003 11:21 IST

The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued contempt notices to the chief secretaries of Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Tamil Nadu for failing to file their responses to a petition alleging noncompliance of its order.

The states had failed to implement an apex court order to include study of the environment as a subject in schools and colleges.

A bench comprising Justice N Santosh Hegde and Justice B P Singh directed the three chief secretaries to appear personally before the court on November 25 and explain why contempt of court proceedings not be initiated against them.
