Saurashtra Mail collides with truck, 1 dead

One person was killed and 29 injured, nine of them seriously, when the Okha-Mumbai Saurashtra Mail collided with an oil tanker at a village in Gujarat's Rajkot district, about 125km from Ahmedabad, on Monday night.

The engine and three adjoining coaches of the train caught fire immediately after the collision, which accident occurred at an unmanned crossing in Lunsar village.

"The tanker driver was crushed to death in the mishap," Rajkot District Collector Anita Karwal told PTI over phone.

"The tanker probably got dragged till a distance," she said adding, "The train driver is unhurt and it was he who informed the police about the mishap. Four coaches of the train have been badly burnt."

Among the injured were women and children.

Earlier, officials in Ahmedabad, including the state control room, had put the number of dead at three.
