State government has links with ISI: Thackeray

March 15, 2003 18:24 IST

Expressing serious concern over the powerful bomb blast in a train at Mulund in Mumbai on March 13, Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray on Saturday accused the Maharashtra government, saying 'some of them might be working hand-in-glove with the ISI' [Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence].

"It is difficult to tell how low a person can stoop in politics... sometimes I feel that some of those at the helm of the affair have links with the ISI and backing those involved in this bomb blast", Thackeray said in the party newspaper 'Saamna'.

The Sena chief was reacting to the train blast on March 13, which left 12 killed and more than 65 injured at suburban Mulund.

Stating that those governing the state were 'impotent', Thackeray said that they [the rulers] would have to face severe unrest from the people who are upset with these kind of subversive activities.

The Sena chief lashed out at the government for failing to deal terrorist activities with an iron hand and strongly advocated a Hindu suicide squad to take on the cross-border terrorism.

"The blast at Mulund has made a mockery of the government's assurances that all is well with the law and order machinery and that the common man is safe," Thackeray added.
