Militants kill DSP in Jammu

A deputy superintendent of police attached to the Indian Reserve Police's 5th Battalion was killed and his driver injured in an ambush by militants in Rajouri district of Jammu on Monday night, official sources said on Tuesday.

Varinder Singh Jaipuria was ambushed on his way to Shahdara Sharief from Thanamandi area, sources said.

Jaipuria and his driver, who was seriously injured in the firing, managed to reach the camp, where they were admitted in the hospital.

The DSP later died in the hospital.

Security forces have launched a combing operation in the surrounding area to track down the militants.
