Fire in pharma factory in Ahmedabad

July 01, 2003 00:25 IST

A major fire razed a pharmaceutical factory in the industrial estate of Naroda on Monday evening, fire brigade sources said in Ahmedabad on Monday night.

Three fire fighters, one foam tender and 11 water tankers have been pressed into service to douse the flames, they said.

"Apparently, the fire broke out due to some friction during a chemical process in one of the plants," fire brigade officials told PTI adding, "The flames have been almost extinguished now."

Most of the labourers managed to escape, they said.

"The fire caused considerable damage to the factory," Deputy Fire Officer B H Patel said adding a detailed probe into the cause would begin on Tuesday.
