Lashkar terrorist killed in Ahmedabad

January 13, 2003 11:25 IST

A suspected Lashkar-e-Tayiba terrorist, wanted in connection with a conspiracy case to kill Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Pravin Togadia, was shot dead by police in an encounter near the Sai Baba temple complex in Ahmedabad.

Sadiq Jamal Mehtar was killed in an exchange of fire when the police, acting on a tip-off, raided his hideout in Naroda area late Sunday night, police sources said.

A revolver and few cartridges were recovered from him, the sources said.

The body has been sent to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem, they added.
